Backend Engineer (Ruby)

Location: Hybrid in Amsterdam; work from the Amsterdam HQ at least 2 days per week

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve scalable microservices and product features.
• Own the quality, resilience, and maintainability of services throughout their lifecycle.
• Collaborate with product designers, product owners, and frontend, backend, and mobile engineers.
• Identify ways to improve engineering processes, document best practices, and advocate for quality.
• Fix bugs, refactor the codebase, and experiment with new technologies during Technical Week.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience with strong object-oriented programming foundations.
• 3+ years of experience building customer-facing products, preferably in e-commerce, fintech, or SaaS.
• Experience designing, implementing, and deploying backend services focused on high availability, low latency, and consistency.
• Good understanding of API design, SQL, and relational databases.
• Excellent English communication skills, including sharing ideas, raising concerns, and documenting work.
• Ruby experience is not required, but willingness to learn Ruby and new technologies is expected.
