TL;DR
Materials & Process Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and qualifying material and manufacturing process specifications for high-temperature aerospace systems with an accent on composites, metallics, ceramics, coatings, adhesives, and hypersonic applications. Focus on leading qualification testing, investigating material and production failures, defining corrective actions, and solving multidisciplinary engineering problems.

Location: Mojave, California, United States. The position is strongly preferred to be fully on-site; hybrid work may be considered for well-qualified candidates with at least 75–80% on-site time. Travel is estimated at less than 10%.

Base salary: $167,500–$217,000 per year.

Company

hirify.global develops reusable air-launched Talon testbeds and operationally realistic Mach 5+ flight testing platforms for hypersonic technology development and national security applications.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain material specification databases and material process specifications.
  • Develop manufacturing process specifications covering welding, heat treatment, additive manufacturing, machining, composite laminating, curing, and bonding.
  • Lead qualification testing to verify process reliability and repeatability.
  • Provide Materials and Processes subject-matter expertise to programs and stakeholders, including technical reviews and proposal writing.
  • Support material selection, nonconformance dispositions, risk management, and M&P IRAD projects.
  • Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations for production issues, defining corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of material properties, characterization techniques, and failure mechanisms across composites, metallics, ceramics, coatings, and adhesives.
  • Extensive knowledge of high-temperature aerospace materials and manufacturing processes, including composite processing, welding, bonding, heat treatment, and surface finishing.
  • Experience with materials data standards such as MMPDS and ASTM, regulatory specifications, design of experiments, material specification databases, process specifications, and M&P laboratory work.
  • Experience with low-temperature prepreg composite materials, including layups and/or wet tie-joint assemblies, plus the ability to solve multidisciplinary, open-ended engineering problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with customers and external stakeholders.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Department of War security clearance. Experience with MS Office and CAD is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting aerospace manufacturing from prototype work through low-rate production.
  • Experience with hypersonic development programs, aerospace propulsion systems, thermal protection systems, additive manufacturing, or composite and metallic structure fabrication.
  • Active Department of War security clearance.

Culture & Benefits

  • 9/80 work schedule.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug healthcare coverage.
  • Paid maternity and parental leave.
  • 50% company match on 401(k) contributions, up to $11,500.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
