Senior Accountant - Payments Accounting

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; hybrid working. Local candidates are prioritized and relocations are not provided.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end month-end close activities for an assigned Payments by Booking accounting scope.
• Prepare, review, and post journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, settlements, intercompany transactions, and other payment-accounting adjustments.
• Maintain accurate general ledger balances and reconcile payment transactions with sub-ledgers, operational data, payment platforms, and source systems.
• Investigate aged balances, reconciling items, data variances, and unusual movements, driving root-cause resolution with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Prepare financial analyses, balance sheet reconciliations, variance explanations, reporting materials, and audit-ready close documentation.
• Execute SOx controls, support audits and regulatory activities, and improve reconciliation coverage, automation, standardization, and close efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a complex, international, or technology-enabled environment.
• Strong experience with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, balance sheet substantiation, and variance analysis.
• Good knowledge of US GAAP and experience with payment, liability, intercompany, and revenue-related transactions.
• Experience with SOx or other internal controls, audit support, statutory reporting, tax requests, or regulatory reporting.
• Fluent written and spoken English required. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, stakeholder management, and communication skills are also required.

Nice to have

• Professional qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent.
• Experience with SAP S/4HANA, BlackLine, and Snowflake.
