Director, Data Engineering (Underwriting Analytics)

Location: Hartford, Connecticut, United States

Annual base salary: $139,400–$230,000, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Lead, guide, and coach the Underwriting Data Engineering team while establishing engineering processes and supporting career development.
• Design and build end-to-end data solutions and ML pipelines covering feature engineering, data preparation, training, testing, and deployment.
• Govern model productionization and coordinate integration with production systems and APIs, including monitoring, alerting, and error handling.
• Lead analytic data products, pilots, and proof-of-concepts aligned with enterprise architecture and data strategies.
• Develop the Underwriting Analytics Portfolio roadmap and collaborate with data scientists, BI engineering, analytics value streams, architecture, and application teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least six additional years of data engineering experience.
• Five or more years of related experience and at least three years of management experience; insurance industry experience is preferred.
• At least three years of hands-on experience with AWS Cloud Services, Python, and Databricks.
• At least two years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Proficiency in SQL, data governance frameworks, cloud platforms, data tooling, communication, and stakeholder management.
