Focus on modeling robot capabilities, state, and intent, designing high-bandwidth low-latency communication, and building dependable systems for simulation and physical deployment.

What you will do

  • Architect the robotics platform that runs autonomy systems across legged robots, ground vehicles, humanoids, and future embodiments.
  • Define versioned, documented APIs and contracts between major autonomy, hardware, simulation, infrastructure, and deployment subsystems.
  • Design models for robot capabilities, state, and intent, including dynamic capability discovery for dashboards, agents, mission planners, and fleet-management systems.
  • Build middleware and runtime infrastructure for sensor data, model inputs and outputs, commands, and state across on-robot and cloud systems.
  • Own platform performance, latency, throughput, resource utilization, and reliability across simulation and physical hardware.
  • Set technical direction through system design, cross-team alignment, code review, mentorship, and team growth.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of production robotics or systems software experience, including ownership of platform, framework, or infrastructure software.
  • Experience architecting distributed robotic systems and understanding failure modes across multiple agents, processes, computers, or robots.
  • Deep ROS 2 and middleware expertise, including pub/sub and RPC semantics, quality of service, serialization, discovery, transport, and constrained networks.
  • Expert-level C++ and Python, plus experience with Linux on embedded or edge compute, concurrency, profiling, tracing, and high-throughput data movement.
  • Production experience deploying, debugging, and supporting software running on real robotic hardware.

Nice to have

  • Experience with quadrupeds, humanoids, manipulators, autonomous vehicles, or other complex robotic platforms.
  • Familiarity with Zenoh, DDS, MQTT, Rust, real-time Linux, embedded platforms, hardware interfaces, or device drivers.
  • Experience with simulation, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, fleet and mission systems, cloud-to-edge systems, or observability tooling.
  • Open-source, technical standards, or robotics middleware contributions.
