VP, Data Engineering Technical Lead (AI)

Location: HQ - San Diego, California, United States

Salary: $125,000–$150,000 per year, plus discretionary annual cash and restricted stock unit bonus targets of 10% each.

What you will do

• Modernize SSIS and SSRS workloads into modular, high-performance cloud-native pipelines using Databricks, dbt, Fivetran, and Airflow.
• Define reusable data design patterns and standardized ingestion, transformation, curation, and consumption frameworks for the enterprise Lakehouse.
• Build proofs of concept and points of view to evaluate technologies such as Delta Live Tables, Iceberg, streaming ingestion, and AI-driven observability.
• Use Databricks Assistant, Cursor AI, GitHub Copilot, and dbt Mesh AI tests for code generation, testing, documentation, and pipeline optimization.
• Apply ML to detect pipeline anomalies and data drift, and optimize compute and scheduling.
• Drive CI/CD, version control, peer reviews, observability, performance optimization, and technical mentoring across the data platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience in data engineering or related technical fields, including 3+ years in a lead or senior role.
• Experience designing data patterns such as CDC, SCD, Medallion, Data Vault, streaming, and batch architectures.
• Deep expertise with Databricks, Apache Spark, dbt, Fivetran, Census, Airflow, Kafka, and Azure and/or GCP services.
• Hands-on experience modernizing legacy ETL workloads and building POCs or POVs for new tools, frameworks, and architectures.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python, Scala, or Java, plus working knowledge of AI-assisted engineering tools.
• Strong architectural thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills.
