Blackstone Credit & Insurance - AI Engineer, Principal (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States

Expected annual base salary: $215,000–$250,000, plus discretionary bonuses and potential equity or other incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Assess portfolio companies’ architectures, data assets, infrastructure, and technical talent, translating findings into strategic insight and internal memos.
• Build rapid prototypes to validate proposed strategic moves across the AI engagement lifecycle.
• Build and maintain internal tools for research automation, assessment templates, tracking, and reusable workflow components.
• Lead technical diligence on implementation partners and monitor delivery during active engagements.
• Participate in working sessions with portfolio company teams alongside the AI Executive.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building AI/ML systems in production environments.
• Fluency in foundation models, agent frameworks, RAG architectures, vector databases, and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong Python engineering skills and experience building APIs and AI-powered applications.
• Experience shipping AI-enabled products or features to real users.
• Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure and production deployment.
• Ability to rapidly assess unfamiliar technical systems, form defensible architectural views, and communicate effectively with senior audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with Model Context Protocol or agent-facing API design.
• Familiarity with SaaS or enterprise software businesses.
• Experience in consulting, investing, technical diligence, private equity, credit, or portfolio operations.
