TL;DR
Pipeline Engineer or Engineer Technician Specialist (Natural Gas Pipelines): Managing pipeline integrity inspection, remediation, testing, and repair projects for natural gas infrastructure with an accent on project scopes, cost control, contractor coordination, and regulatory compliance. Focus on evaluating in-line inspection anomalies, developing repair strategies, supporting field operations, and maintaining safe and reliable pipeline systems.

Location: Hybrid schedule in Brentwood, Tennessee or Birmingham, Alabama; travel 25–40% to field sites and offices, with occasional overnight stays. The regular hybrid schedule is Monday through Wednesday in the office and Thursday and Friday at home when travel is not required.

What you will do

  • Manage pipeline integrity projects involving in-line inspection tools, anomaly evaluation, remediation, testing, and repairs.
  • Manage multiple capital, maintenance, pipeline, facility, and engineering study projects with varying deadlines.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, budgets, funding requests, bid documents, and closure documentation.
  • Coordinate permitting, contractor selection, materials, bidding, and field project execution.
  • Provide engineering support to operations and collaborate with engineering, environmental health and safety, accounting, gas control, land, and other internal departments.
  • Apply engineering, construction, operating, safety, and regulatory standards to improve pipeline integrity and operational continuity.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience; the role level will be determined by skills and experience.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is preferred; seven years of relevant natural gas or petroleum pipeline experience may substitute.
  • Experience or working knowledge of pipeline fabrication, construction, maintenance, repair, project management, and cost estimation.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and diagrams, communicate clearly in writing and verbally, prioritize multiple projects, and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to complete required local, state, federal, and company training.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurer are required.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of in-line inspection tools, pipeline remediation, pressure testing, MAOP studies, and high-pressure natural gas pipeline construction.
  • Knowledge of pipeline regulatory codes and standards, including 49 CFR 192/195, ASME B31.8/B31.3, and ASME/NACE standards.
  • Experience with natural gas storage and treatment facilities or equipment failure root-cause investigations.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar drawing software, along with advanced computer and mathematics skills.
