Process Chemist (Chromatography): Executing and leading complex chromatography laboratory work to support manufacturing operations and improve products, processes, and applications with an accent on GC, GCMS, LC, and LCMS analysis. Focus on troubleshooting manufacturing issues, designing statistically sound experiments, leading investigations and root cause analysis, and strengthening method robustness and data integrity.

Location: Folsom, California, United States; onsite

Salary: $132,851–$207,580 per year, plus bonus, stock, and benefits eligibility.

What you will do

  • Execute and oversee complex laboratory work using GC, GCMS, LC, and LCMS to support manufacturing decisions.
  • Provide real-time, on-floor troubleshooting and resolve analytical questions within manufacturing schedules.
  • Design statistically sound experiments, interpret complex datasets, and communicate risk-based recommendations.
  • Lead process performance evaluations, robustness studies, manufacturing investigations, root cause analyses, deviations, CAPA, and complaint investigations.
  • Partner with QC, QA, R&D, MSAT, and Global Operations on analytical strategy and product requirements.
  • Improve chromatography capability, maintain technical documentation, and mentor teams on laboratory best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with GC and HPLC/UHPLC, including troubleshooting, validation, and sample preparation.
  • Working knowledge of analytical techniques and detectors including MS, UV, FID, and ECD.
  • Experience leading complex investigations and translating analytical data into actionable technical recommendations.
  • Strong technical writing skills for protocols, validation documents, and investigation reports.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety, quality systems, regulatory compliance, and data integrity.

Nice to have

  • LCMS or GCMS experience in trace analysis, impurity profiling, or materials characterization.
  • Knowledge of chromatography consumables, stationary phases, sample preparation, and performance chemistry evaluations.
  • Experience in GMP or other regulated environments, including change control, deviations, CAPA, and inspection-ready documentation.
  • Experience with method validation, method transfer, continued process or method verification, DOE, and statistical tools.
