Data Engineer (AI/ML): Designing and deploying scalable data pipelines, reusable data services, and machine learning capabilities for secure Department of Defense mission environments with an accent on structured and unstructured data, feature engineering, and production ML. Focus on building reproducible model-inference services, integrating containerized workloads through CI/CD, and delivering decision-support capabilities under strict performance, security, and audit requirements.
Location: On-site in Washington, DC, United States

is partnering with Expression, a provider of data fusion, analytics, software engineering, IT, and electromagnetic spectrum management solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of State, and national security community.
What you will do
- Design and maintain reusable services for data ingestion, transformation, preprocessing, and feature engineering.
- Build scalable pipelines and analytical workflows for structured and unstructured mission data.
- Develop and deploy machine learning models for entity resolution, classification, clustering, prediction, anomaly detection, pattern recognition, and decision support.
- Package model-inference services with documented APIs and integrate them into dashboards and end-user applications.
- Deploy data and ML services in secure, containerized, cloud-native environments using CI/CD, testing, version control, Databricks, Docker, and Terraform.
- Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, DevSecOps engineers, data scientists, and mission stakeholders on requirements, delivery, documentation, and operational handoff.
Requirements
- Secret clearance is required, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of recent specialized experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience up to 11 years of specialized experience.
- Experience with data visualization and storytelling using tools such as Palantir MSS Workshop and Slate.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and distributed data frameworks including Spark, Databricks, and PySpark.
- Experience developing machine learning models from training through deployment with tools such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and XGBoost.
- Strong technical communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
Nice to have
- 4+ years of experience in applied data science, Palantir Foundry development, or data-pipeline development.
- Familiarity with MLOps, API development, AWS, Azure, or Palantir Foundry.
- Knowledge of data validation, model testing, and performance evaluation.
