Software Engineer – Threat Protection (Windows/C++)

Location: Hybrid position in Waterloo or Toronto, Canada; candidates must live within commuting distance and be available onsite as needed.

Salary: CAD $100,772.50–$136,337.50 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Develop and debug Windows user-mode threat protection software using secure software development practices.
• Design the architecture of new threat protection features and capabilities.
• Build software interacting with Windows processes, services, registry, file system objects, and system configuration.
• Investigate customer issues using telemetry, logs, crash data, and data analysis.
• Triage and resolve complex defects with Visual Studio, WinDBG, and other Windows debugging tools.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines, participate in code reviews, support the full software development lifecycle, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in C++ software development, including design, implementation, code review, and defect investigation.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++, multithreading, IPC, and system programming.
• Experience with Windows APIs for process control, services, registry, file system operations, and system configuration.
• Strong debugging and system-state investigation skills using Visual Studio, WinDBG, logs, telemetry, crash data, and Windows diagnostic tools.
• Experience using AI coding tools for assisted or agentic software development.
• Ability to analyze data with SQL or Python and collaborate effectively with engineering teammates.

Nice to have

• Kernel debugging analysis experience.
• Data analysis experience with Databricks.
• Experience with Windows performance analysis tools.
• Familiarity with Jenkins or other CI/CD pipelines.
