Microbiology Co-op (Microbiome Research)

Location: Wilmington, DE, USA; predominantly lab-based work in the R&D Center.

What you will do

• Support microbiome research covering human and animal probiotics, postbiotics, prebiotics, and enzyme products.
• Work with R&D scientists to design, troubleshoot, and execute in-vitro and in-vivo experiments related to nutrition and health.
• Process microbial and animal-based samples using microbiological and genomic laboratory procedures.
• Record experimental data accurately and on time.

Requirements

• Enroll in an academic program that supports an Intern or Co-op opportunity; the Co-op lasts up to 12 months and requires continued education after completion.
• Pursue a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Biological Sciences, including microbiology or cell and molecular biology, biotechnology, mucosal immunology, or a related field.
• Typically have completed the second year of undergraduate education.
• Work effectively in an interdisciplinary scientific setting and a team environment.
• Show a high level of initiative and a hands-on approach with a strong affinity for laboratory work.
• Document results, analyze data, draw conclusions, and communicate findings.

Nice to have

• Experience with analytical balances, centrifuges, plate readers, or other basic laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience with aseptic and culturing techniques and strain isolation.
• Experience with DNA isolation and PCR.
• Knowledge of or experience with mammalian cell culture, C. elegans, or other biological models.
• Knowledge of or experience with bioassays, culture-based or microbial assays, immunoassays, or molecular and biochemical assays.
