Senior Project Accountant

Location: Full-time office work in San Diego, California, or remote work from the Pacific or Central time zones. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship.

Salary: $97,600–$122,000 per year

What you will do

• Oversee accounting functions for assigned construction projects and ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
• Support project managers and project teams with complex accounting questions, owner contract requirements, and financial controls.
• Prepare AIA billings, supporting documentation, lien waivers, preliminary notices, subcontractor payments, and compliance records.
• Perform cost coding, invoice reviews, job cost and sales tax accruals, cash application support, and account reconciliations.
• Complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing procedures, including complex journal entries and financial analysis.
• Improve project accounting processes and mentor other Project Accountants.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in construction accounting.
• Strong audit experience, including active participation in interim and year-end external audits.
• Experience supporting or working within a publicly traded company, with familiarity with SOX controls and public-company reporting standards.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting procedures, compliance requirements, and integrated online accounting systems.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, organize work, review team members’ work, and provide guidance.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.

Nice to have

• CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification.
