Cybersecurity Intern

Location: Remote within the United States. Must be based in the United States and authorized to work without sponsorship.

Salary: $16–$24 USD per hour.

What you will do

• Configure, harden, test, and document Microsoft Cloud and Endpoint security services across Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra, Defender, Intune, and Purview.
• Review security settings against benchmarks and identify misconfigurations.
• Research advisories, CVEs, and attack techniques, assess their relevance, and prepare concise technical briefs.
• Build PowerShell or Python scripts and small tools for data collection, reporting, evidence gathering, and configuration checks.
• Support compliance activities including control evidence collection, access reviews, vendor reviews, asset inventory reconciliation, and documentation maintenance.
• Assist with client security engagements and evaluate, deploy, test, and document security tooling without direct client-facing responsibility.

Requirements

• Foundational cybersecurity knowledge from coursework, certifications such as Security+, or self-study; professional experience is not required.
• Comfort working across Windows, macOS, and Linux and learning unfamiliar tools independently.
• Some scripting ability in PowerShell, Python, or an equivalent language.
• Clear written communication, accuracy, curiosity, and reliable follow-through.
• Availability for 30+ hours per week on an ongoing basis.
• Must be based in the United States and authorized to work without sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Microsoft 365, Entra, or Azure.
• Familiarity with NIST CSF, CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
• Experience with SIEM, EDR, or vulnerability scanning tools.
• Home lab, GitHub projects, CTFs, HackTheBox, TryHackMe, technical writeups, or other evidence of hands-on security interest.
• Interest in applying AI to security work and building practical tools.
