Principal Scientist – NMR Spectroscopy (Biomolecular NMR)

Location: Onsite in Research Triangle Park (RTP), Morrisville, North Carolina, United States; Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Salary: $110,000–$120,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead biomolecular NMR characterization of proteins and oligonucleotides, including sample preparation, multidimensional experiments, structure confirmation, and data interpretation.
• Lead 1D and 2D small-molecule NMR analyses for identity, purity, and structural confirmation.
• Develop, optimize, troubleshoot, calibrate, and oversee maintenance of NMR instrumentation and methods.
• Guide reference standard qualification, method transfers, validations, orthogonal testing, and complex analytical investigations.
• Support client discussions, audits, project planning, technical strategy, and cross-functional scientific initiatives.
• Interpret analytical data, reports, and certificates of analysis while leading OOS/OOT assessments and CAPAs.

Requirements

• Expert-level NMR spectroscopy proficiency, including structural elucidation, advanced method development, and biomolecular NMR for proteins and oligonucleotides.
• 8–10 years of analytical chemistry experience in a CRO, pharmaceutical, or regulated laboratory environment.
• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or a related discipline preferred; candidates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree and extensive NMR experience may be considered.
• Experience providing scientific leadership, mentoring staff, and managing multiple high-priority client projects.
• Knowledge of NMR theory, pulse sequences, spectral interpretation, instrument operation, data processing software, chromatography, mass spectrometry, and analytical quality systems.
• Ability to work onsite in a laboratory and office environment with exposure to chemicals, fumes, gases, and sample-related hazards.

Nice to have

• Experience in GMP/GLP laboratory environments.
• Knowledge of USP, EP, and JP compendial requirements.
• Experience with TopSpin, MNova, VnmrJ, or Mdrive.
