TL;DR
HSD Systems Engineer (Remote) (Linux): Deploying, upgrading, and maintaining high-speed data infrastructure and core Internet services with an accent on Linux administration, DNS/DHCP, DOCSIS provisioning, and automation. Focus on designing and implementing reliable network platforms, troubleshooting escalated issues, securing critical systems, and supporting high-availability operations.

Location: Remote within Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, or Utah. Up to 10% travel and on-call work outside business hours may be required.

What you will do

  • Deploy, upgrade, maintain, and troubleshoot High-Speed Data infrastructure and backend applications.
  • Configure and administer Linux systems, DOCSIS provisioning, DNS, DHCP, authentication, and access policies.
  • Automate operational tasks and optimize systems using Python, Ansible, Shell, Perl, Docker, and related tools.
  • Prepare low-level design documentation, configuration templates, application diagrams, procedures, and support materials.
  • Collaborate with project teams to define requirements, estimate effort and cost, assess risks, and implement new technologies.
  • Handle escalated issues, customer equipment escalations, vendor solutions, training, and assigned on-call network changes.

Requirements

  • At least two years of progressive experience in network engineering and 4+ years administering CentOS or RHEL Linux environments.
  • 4+ years designing, deploying, and operating high-availability corporate or telecommunications networks.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of network security best practices.
  • Proficiency with Linux administration, networking fundamentals, DNS, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, LDAP, and related technologies.
  • Associate-level networking certification required; professional-level certification preferred. RHCSA, RHCE, or CCNA experience is relevant.
  • Remote work is available only from the listed US states; flexibility for after-hours on-call duties and up to 10% travel is required.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree and previous experience with an MSO or in the cable industry.
  • Experience with Incognito, Infoblox, Calix, and Red Hat products.
  • Experience designing and implementing DHCP, DNS, or NTP applications.
  • Vendor relationship management and escalated application troubleshooting experience.
