TL;DR
Engineering Manager (Java): Co-leading an engineering team responsible for mission-critical applications supporting Swiss Re's Group Tax and Finance functions with an accent on Java development, cloud-native platforms, and technical leadership. Focus on designing scalable application components, managing full application lifecycles across public and private clouds, and driving CI/CD, testing, and engineering quality practices.
Location: Bratislava, Slovakia; hybrid work arrangement
Base salary: EUR 3,800–6,300 per month for a full-time role, plus performance-based variable compensation.

What you will do
- Co-lead and mentor Java, SAP application, and DevOps engineers while distributing work and increasing delivery capacity.
- Design, implement, and maintain application features, components, and interfaces with a focus on performance, maintainability, and scalability.
- Own the full lifecycle of applications hosted on public and private cloud platforms, ensuring stability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Group Tax business partners to translate requirements into technical solutions and deliver application changes.
- Drive engineering practices including test-driven development, CI/CD pipelines, code quality, and technology innovation.
- Coordinate IT activities for financial closing cycles and project deliveries, and contribute to roadmap and backlog prioritization.
Requirements
- Professional experience in Java application development and support, including hands-on experience with the Spring Framework.
- Cloud-native development experience with public cloud infrastructure, containerization using Docker and Kubernetes, and Azure exposure strongly preferred.
- Significant experience with CI/CD, test-driven development, and tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps.
- Proven technical leadership or mentoring experience, including task distribution, team management, and coaching engineers.
- Experience working with internationally distributed teams in a large corporate environment.
Nice to have
- SAP experience with S/4 HANA, ABAP CDS Views, SAP Analytics Cloud, or SAP FI/CO.
- Angular and TypeScript experience for frontend development.
- Workflow orchestration, scheduling, ITIL, and Agile/Scrum experience.
- Knowledge of SAP SQL or ABAP and relational databases.
- Exposure to financial or tax processes in a corporate or reinsurance environment.
