TL;DR
Fraud Associate (Payments): Monitoring transactions and merchants, analyzing fraud patterns, and managing Visa and Mastercard compliance with an accent on chargeback prevention, BI-driven investigations, and merchant risk assessment. Focus on developing fraud detection strategies, improving reporting workflows, and resolving complex compliance issues with merchants, partners, and card schemes.
Location: Valletta, Malta; hybrid working model with time split between remote work and the Valletta office. Candidates must be located in Malta.
Salary: €28,000–€32,000 per year, with potential additional variable remuneration and benefits depending on eligibility and role type.

What you will do
- Monitor and investigate suspicious transactions, merchants, and third-party activity.
- Analyze fraud patterns across the payments portfolio using BI tools and identify emerging trends.
- Develop fraud detection strategies and improve reports, tools, and workflows to prevent fraud and chargebacks.
- Communicate with merchants and partners to assess fraud risks, resolve issues, and provide compliance guidance to SMB clients.
- Collaborate with Visa and Mastercard on program breaches, appeals, investigations, and reporting.
- Work with the Risk team to monitor high-risk merchants and ensure compliance with card scheme requirements.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience with BI tools such as Oracle BI, SAP, Qlik, Tableau, or SQL, or advanced Excel skills.
- Degree in Banking & Finance, Statistics, Data Analytics, Economics, or a related field, or practical experience in fraud and investigations within Payments or Banking.
- Experience with card transactions or acquiring is highly advantageous.
- Must be located in Malta.
- Clear, confident spoken and written English is required.
- Strong analytical, investigative, communication, prioritization, and independent decision-making skills.

- Direct experience supporting small-to-medium business clients.
- Experience working with card schemes such as Visa and Mastercard.
