Global Sovereign Ratings, Public Finance – Vice President

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid work with four days in the office each week

Base salary: CAD 110,000–160,000 annually; 30% annual incentive target.

hirify.global DBRS provides independent credit rating services and opinions for corporate and sovereign entities, financial institutions, and project and structured finance instruments globally.

What you will do

• Lead coverage of public finance ratings for states, provinces, territories, municipalities, universities, hospitals, and other government-related entities.
• Conduct issuer and industry research, analyze financial statements, and assess forecasts and management strategies to develop rating recommendations.
• Produce credit reports and commentaries, engage with media, and respond to investor queries.
• Maintain relationships with issuers, investors, and intermediaries while leading new rating opportunities in the Canadian and U.S. public finance sectors.
• Contribute to research products and rating methodology improvements.
• Oversee, train, and mentor junior analysts while maintaining regulatory records and compliance with company policies.

Requirements

• Seven years of public policy or finance experience, including at least five years in public finance credit ratings or analysis.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of public-sector and not-for-profit entities and the operations of different levels of government.
• Strong research, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with close attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate effectively, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work.

Nice to have

• French language skills.
• Completion of the CFA program.
• Less experienced candidates may be considered for an Assistant Vice President position.
