Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Chicago, United States; hybrid work with four days in-office each week in most locations. Unrestricted right to work in the U.S. is required.

Base salary compensation: $153,317.00 per year.

What you will do

• Architect, optimize, and develop Python-based applications and APIs using FastAPI, Flask, RESTful services, asynchronous programming, and event-driven architectures.
• Design and optimize relational and vector databases, including PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Weaviate, and Pinecone, as well as data-processing workflows.
• Research, review, and architect AI-driven enterprise platforms using retrieval-augmented generation, LLM fine-tuning, model optimization, and AI governance.
• Drive AI security, compliance, ethical AI practices, hallucination mitigation, and safety guardrails.
• Define architectural guidelines, review technical designs and documentation, enforce coding standards, and ensure maintainable and scalable codebases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align AI strategies with business needs and technical requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with 5 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience; suitable combinations of education, training, and experience are accepted.
• Production Python development, API design, object-oriented programming, and software architecture using design patterns and UML.
• Database engineering with SQL Server or PostgreSQL, including normalization, optimization, sharding, ACID transactions, and migrations.
• Experience with AWS services, including S3, Aurora, RDS, API Gateway, and Lambda, plus Git, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of machine learning, NLP, embeddings, transformers, attention mechanisms, fine-tuning, and LLM safety.
• Unrestricted right to work in the U.S. is required.
