TL;DR
Wire Harness Design Engineer II (Aerospace) (Capital Essentials/Zuken E3): Designing critical power, digital, analog, and RF interconnects for satellites, spacecraft, UAVs, and other airborne platforms with an accent on schematic development, cable routing, connector selection, and harness assembly drawings. Focus on integrating and testing high-complexity harnesses, ensuring EMI/EMC and reliability requirements, and coordinating designs with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and supplier teams.

Location: Austin, TX, United States; on-site. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations for space technology export regulations.

What you will do

  • Design high-complexity power, digital, analog, and RF wire harnesses for space and airborne systems and associated ground support equipment.
  • Develop schematics, cable routing, connector selections, preferred parts lists, and harness assembly drawings.
  • Define and review design approaches for EMI/EMC compliance, radiation tolerance, space charging, reliability, manufacturability, and system-level performance.
  • Support harness integration, testing, troubleshooting, and qualification at box, subsystem, and platform levels.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, technicians, suppliers, and contract manufacturers on quality, supply, and schedule outcomes.
  • Present technical solutions in design reviews, serve as an interconnect systems subject matter expert, and improve wire harness standards and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of relevant industry or university research experience.
  • Familiarity with Capital Essentials or Zuken E3 harness design tools.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering principles, wire routing, controlled impedance, cable shielding, and EMC considerations.
  • Ability to analyze and test harness designs against industry standards, safety regulations, and performance requirements, including IPC-WHMA-A-620 and/or NASA-STD 8739.4A.
  • Knowledge of high-reliability connectors and wire types, including D38999, Micro-D, Nano-D, M227569, and M27500 series.

  • Experience designing for aerospace environments.
  • Conceptual understanding of wire harness assembly and required tooling.
