AI/ML Research Consultant (AI)

Location: On-site full time at the hirify.global Campus in Melbourn, near Cambridge, UK.

What you will do

• Design and deploy machine learning systems for diverse, real-world applications and novel technical challenges.
• Research model fundamentals, architectures, machine learning techniques, and the full ML pipeline.
• Develop and train models, build proofs of concept, and create working prototypes.
• Analyse technical literature, formulate hypotheses, design experiments, and interpret results.
• Troubleshoot prototypes, present conclusions, and recommend further research.
• Work with clients to understand requirements and deliver high-quality outcomes at pace.

Requirements

• Strong undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, or a related subject.
• Research experience or potential through postgraduate study, side projects, or professional learning.
• Fluent Python programming and experience with one or more ML frameworks, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, or JAX.
• Experience across multiple machine learning techniques or the ability to adapt rapidly to new domains.
• Scientific rigour, creative problem-solving, independent working ability, and effective written and verbal communication.
• Eligibility for UK security clearance is required; the role is not eligible for the UKVI sponsorship visa scheme.

Nice to have

• Research experience in the UK defence and security sector.
• Client-facing experience and commercial awareness.
• Expertise in edge AI, resource-constrained ML, hardware-specific optimisation, custom CUDA, FPGA or embedded deployment.
• Hands-on research into generative models or development of AI-based and agentic tools.
