Backend Engineer (AdTech)

Location: Hybrid in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan

What you will do

• Design and iterate robust, scalable online and offline backend systems for a high-traffic advertising platform.
• Build and improve Ranking Backend systems for ad prediction and delivery.
• Develop Premium Ads, Targeting and Custom Audience, and Measurement capabilities.
• Improve system architecture and maintain low-latency, high-throughput ad delivery services.
• Collaborate with Ads Ranking, Ads Foundation, Data Platform, and AI Infrastructure engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience developing backend systems for high-traffic web services.
• Advanced programming skills in at least one of Java, Kotlin, or Golang; experience with C++, C#, or Python is also accepted.
• Professional experience with Kafka, Redis, SQL, and NoSQL databases.
• Business-level English and conversational-level Japanese are required.

Nice to have

• AdTech experience and strong Java programming skills, including failure analysis and class/interface design.
• Experience designing high-traffic architectures and operating microservice or service mesh environments.
• Experience with AI in engineering, large-scale data processing, or tools such as AWS, Spring Boot, MySQL, Hive, Spark, Flink, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Basic knowledge of machine learning, statistics, and mathematics.
• Experience leading projects through strategy, design, development, release, and evaluation, and partnering with business stakeholders.
• Business-level Japanese.
