V-BAT Technical Writer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Develop accurate technical documentation for aerospace, avionics, autonomy, and mission systems in collaboration with engineering subject matter experts.
• Manage documentation across system development, flight testing, and sustained mission operations.
• Create service bulletins, operator manuals, aircraft operating procedures, maintenance manuals, troubleshooting guides, training materials, and mission documentation.
• Research system architectures, design specifications, interface control documents, software descriptions, and test procedures to extract technical information.
• Create supporting visuals, including system diagrams, workflows, illustrations, and annotated graphics.
• Maintain documentation standards, templates, version control, and rapid updates based on flight-test results, system changes, and operational feedback.

Requirements

• 3–10 years of technical writing or editing experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or complex engineering systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, English, or a related field.
• Experience documenting aircraft systems, complex hardware and software platforms, or similar technical domains.
• Ability to work directly with engineers and subject matter experts and distill complex system behavior into clear, user-focused documentation.
• Strong structured-documentation, lifecycle-management, writing, editing, organizational, and quality-control skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, identify ambiguous or missing information, and work across distributed teams and time zones.

Nice to have

• Experience with UAVs, autonomy, avionics, mission systems, advanced aircraft systems, flight-test documentation, or operational procedure development.
• Familiarity with DoD technical manual standards such as MIL-STD and S1000D.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe FrameMaker, or XML-based authoring tools.
• Defense or aerospace program experience, project management experience, or a relevant master’s degree.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve documentation workflows.
