Wireless Firmware Validation Engineer

Zoox develops autonomous vehicles and the software, firmware, and connectivity systems required to operate an autonomous mobility fleet.

What you will do

• Own performance validation, optimization, and debugging of the Telematics Control Unit across cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and internal software layers.
• Define component integration plans from hardware bring-up through advanced functionality and fleet deployment.
• Design and execute comprehensive validation plans and advanced network-emulation campaigns using tools such as Keysight UXM.
• Analyze diagnostics, logs, protocol behavior, performance bottlenecks, cellular edge cases, and vulnerabilities.
• Validate interfaces between RF and baseband, the baseband protocol stack and application processor, and the application processor and host.
• Develop log-analysis frameworks and automation scripts while collaborating on software, firmware, and integration specifications.

Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a similar discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in wireless validation or embedded systems test engineering.
• Deep expertise in 3GPP cellular technologies, including 4G-LTE and 5G-NR, as well as Wi-Fi and satellite feature validation.
• Extensive knowledge of LTE/5G protocol stacks, including NAS, PDCP, RRC, RLC, MAC, and PHY, and the ability to interpret 3GPP specifications.
• Experience with QXDM, Shannon Tools, Wireshark, and cellular network emulators such as Keysight UXM and Rohde & Schwarz CMW500/CMX500.
• Strong proficiency in Python or Shell scripting for automated test frameworks.

Nice to have

• Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or BLE.
• Experience testing embedded Linux or Yocto Project software.
• Background in autonomous vehicles, telematics, or IoT.
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving validation practices across organizations.
