Lead Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

Location: London, United Kingdom; hybrid working.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for complex machine learning and software projects, balancing trade-offs and guiding priorities.
• Architect, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable ML and software systems, including client-side deployments.
• Define project problems, develop roadmaps, and oversee delivery across multiple workstreams in high-risk environments.
• Drive shared resources and libraries, and guide engineers contributing to reusable solutions.
• Lead hiring, mentor engineers, and set team-wide development goals.
• Act as a technical expert and coach for customers, estimating workstreams and explaining recommendations to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Deep technical expertise with broad software engineering knowledge and the ability to solve complex problems.
• Strong Python skills plus at least one compiled or strongly typed language, such as Go, Java, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Expertise in at least one major cloud platform, such as Azure, GCP, or AWS.
• Experience leading teams to build full-stack web applications.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to manage and coach engineers, communicate clearly with customers, and guide technical and non-technical stakeholders.
