Software Engineer - Data Infrastructure

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid work with regular office attendance three days per week

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate scalable data infrastructure and experimentation systems for mobile games and product use cases.
• Lead the technical design of experiment assignment, player segmentation, exposure logging, telemetry processing, metric computation, guardrails, and reproducible analysis.
• Build reliable batch and streaming pipelines using Apache Beam, Apache Spark, Ray, Apache Flink, and Apache Kafka.
• Design GCP data platforms with BigQuery, Apache Iceberg, Google Cloud Storage, Kubernetes, Airflow, and Terraform.
• Develop guardrails and validation methodologies for AI-assisted and agentic engineering workflows.
• Set technical direction, drive multi-team initiatives, mentor engineers, and potentially manage engineering staff while remaining hands-on.

Requirements

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating production data platforms or large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong programming ability in Java, Python, Go, or Rust; Java or Python experience is especially relevant.
• Deep experience with cloud data infrastructure, preferably GCP and BigQuery, plus distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or Ray.
• Production experience with real-time data systems, orchestration, containers, infrastructure automation, lakehouse architectures, and object storage.
• Experience with experimentation, analytics, telemetry, or data products used by multiple engineering and product teams.
• Proficient English and availability to work in the Tokyo hybrid arrangement are required. Coding skills will be assessed during recruitment, and candidates must validate and take responsibility for AI-assisted work.
