TL;DR
Flight Software Engineer I (New Grad) (Embedded Space Systems): Developing and testing flight software for spacecraft computers, integrating GNC algorithms, and building device drivers and communication libraries with an accent on low-level firmware, embedded RTOS, and safety-critical systems. Focus on integrating command and telemetry databases, creating HITL/SITL simulators, and debugging hardware communication protocols.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado, or Long Beach, California

Base salary: $75,000 in Denver or $80,000 in Long Beach.

What you will do

  • Support the design, development, integration, and testing of flight software for spacecraft computers.
  • Integrate GNC algorithms with flight software and collaborate with the ground C2 software team.
  • Define and maintain command and telemetry databases for ground, on-orbit testing, and missions.
  • Develop spacecraft command scripting and sequencing capabilities.
  • Design and implement satellite subsystem model simulators for HITL and SITL environments.
  • Build reusable device drivers, hardware interfaces, and communications protocol libraries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 0–2 years of experience with low-level firmware architecture, design, and development.
  • Experience with low-level device drivers and safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS platforms such as RTLinux or Azure RTOS.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS422, RS485, UDP, and TCP/IP.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Rust, and Zig.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or experience developing or producing flight software for space applications.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux, microcontrollers, application processors, and embedded development tools.
  • Experience with robotics, automation, motor control, sensor fusion, instrumentation, oscilloscopes, or protocol analyzers.
