Senior Backend Engineer (L5) - Payments (Fintech)

hirify.global is building infrastructure for cross-border payment systems for institutions, enabling money movement across time zones, banking systems, and regulatory environments.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for payment orchestration, corridor and partner integrations, FX and quoting, payment lifecycle management, and settlement confirmation.
• Design configuration-driven architecture for launching new EUR, MXN, COP, AED, and future payment corridors.
• Build safeguarding and transaction monitoring controls with audit trails suitable for regulators and auditors.
• Define standards for idempotency, exactly-once effects, consistency guarantees, safe retries, and backward-compatible API evolution.
• Lead partner resilience, including degraded-mode behavior, failover, routing, cut-off handling, reconciliation, observability, and incident response.
• Lead architecture reviews, mentor senior engineers, and collaborate with product, compliance, risk, banking partnerships, and engineering.

Requirements

• Significant senior- or staff-level backend engineering experience owning complex production systems.
• Production experience building or operating payment systems and understanding duplicates, partial failures, cut-off misses, and stuck or lost payments.
• Experience integrating external banking, payment, or FX partners and handling production drift, credential changes, undocumented behavior, and outages.
• Strong judgment around correctness under failure, including retries, idempotency, exactly-once effects, and critical data handling.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, reliability, performance, and scalability trade-offs.
• Fluency in a modern TypeScript/Node backend stack and cloud infrastructure, with excellent technical communication.

Nice to have

• Cross-border payments experience with corridor launches, FX, SWIFT, SEPA, or local clearing schemes across the EU, LATAM, Middle East, or APAC.
• Experience with safeguarding, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, or other regulated controls in an EMI, PI, PSD2, or MiCAR-style environment.
• Multi-partner orchestration, partner health scoring, failover, durable workflows, or long-running payment processes.
• Experience with stablecoin or digital-asset settlement rails and observability for high-stakes financial flows.
