Platform Backend Engineer (Go/Rust)

Location: Toronto, Canada

Base salary: CAD $160,000–$240,000 per year

What you will do

• Build and operate backend platform services for API access, Kafka-based event routing, workflow execution, machine identity, and immutable audit records.
• Design event-driven workflows that turn PSA webhooks, RMM alerts, and platform events into durable execution using Kafka and Temporal.
• Develop secrets-management and KMS abstractions with multi-cloud support, envelope encryption, bring-your-own-key models, and customer-level cryptographic isolation.
• Implement capability-grant enforcement and secure third-party API connectors with scoped access, managed credentials, request validation, and audit logging.
• Own GitOps deployment pipelines and onboarding automation for isolated customer environments, identity provisioning, compliance configuration, and key-management setup.
• Improve observability, performance, failure recovery, operational readiness, and production incident response.

Requirements

• Production backend engineering experience with Go or Rust.
• Experience designing event-driven systems with Kafka or similar technologies, including retries, idempotency, replay, and at-least-once delivery.
• Experience with authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, token lifecycle management, or fine-grained access controls.
• Experience implementing encryption or key-management solutions with cloud KMS platforms, envelope encryption, or key hierarchies.
• Experience operating multi-tenant production systems with structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and incident response.

Nice to have

• Experience with Temporal, identity platforms such as Zitadel or Keycloak, or audit-focused data stores such as ClickHouse.
• Experience with GitOps, CI/CD, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, or multi-cloud services across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience integrating MSP, PSA, RMM, security, or Microsoft 365 APIs.
• Experience building software for SOC 2, HIPAA, CMMC, or similar compliance environments.
