Senior Machine Learning Scientist, AI for Biology & Translation (AIBT)

Location: South San Francisco, California, United States of America. Relocation benefits are not available.

Salary: $147,800–$274,400 per year, with a discretionary annual bonus potentially available.

What you will do

• Develop and apply advanced machine learning methods to biology and translational research problems.
• Develop, adapt, evaluate, and deploy foundation models, large language models, multimodal models, and generative AI approaches for biomedical applications.
• Design scalable workflows integrating biological, molecular, imaging, and clinical datasets.
• Lead model optimization, benchmarking, validation, interpretation, and reproducibility efforts.
• Collaborate with computational scientists, software engineers, biologists, clinicians, and therapeutic-area researchers.
• Identify opportunities to apply emerging AI technologies to biomedical discovery and drug development.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline, with significant postdoctoral or industry experience.
• Expertise in deep learning, foundation models, generative AI, large language models, multimodal learning, or related areas.
• Experience leading technically complex machine learning projects from research through deployment or scientific application.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with modern machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, and Hugging Face.
• Experience building reproducible, scalable machine learning pipelines, software, production-quality AI systems, or machine learning infrastructure.
• Strong communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills, with an interest in biology, translational science, and drug discovery.

Nice to have

• Publications or significant technical contributions in machine learning, artificial intelligence, computational biology, or related disciplines.
• Experience with multimodal biomedical datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, imaging, pathology, or clinical data.
