Fire Protection Engineer (Data Centers)

Location: Miami, Florida, United States; based at the Miami headquarters with periodic travel to project sites.

Builds and operates large data centers supporting AI, colocation, cloud, and Bitcoin mining workloads at the intersection of technology, energy, and infrastructure.

What you will do

• Review suppression and detection designs, including pre-action, clean agent, water mist, chemical, ESS-specific, VESDA, spot, and linear heat systems.
• Verify code compliance, FM Global data sheet conformance, zoning, and hazard coverage across project areas, including battery and energy-storage rooms.
• Manage AHJ permitting interfaces, plan submittals, variance requests, inspections, acceptance testing, and interpretation issues across jurisdictions.
• Coordinate FM Global plan reviews, data sheet compliance, fire pump and water supply requirements, and field engineering visits.
• Integrate fire protection systems with mechanical, electrical, controls, BMS monitoring, fan shutdown, damper sequences, EPO, and suppression interlocks.
• Support integrated commissioning, punch-list closure, turnover, and maintenance of fire protection standards and typical details across the portfolio.

Requirements

• 5+ years of fire protection engineering experience in data centers, industrial facilities, or mission-critical environments.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 13, 72, 75/76, 2001, 855, and FM Global data sheets as applied to data centers.
• Direct experience managing AHJ plan review and acceptance testing through approval.
• Experience coordinating with insurers; FM Global experience is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of detection and suppression integration with BMS, electrical shutdown, and mechanical sequences, including liquid cooling and battery energy storage implications.
• Ability to work from the Miami headquarters and travel approximately 15–25% for acceptance tests and FM Global visits.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license in Fire Protection Engineering.
• Fire Protection Engineering degree with a path toward PE licensure.
