Senior Research Engineer (AI)

Location: Menlo Park, California, United States; on-site with in-person collaboration 5 days per week.

Hippocratic AI is building a safety-focused, healthcare-only large language model and AI agents designed to improve patient outcomes at scale.

What you will do

• Build and maintain scalable backend systems for high-performance healthcare AI applications.
• Design data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and preparing large-scale multimodal healthcare datasets for training and inference.
• Develop APIs and microservices for data retrieval, processing, and interaction with AI models.
• Build infrastructure supporting data ingestion, feature extraction, tagging, metadata management, and dataset retrieval.
• Monitor and optimize backend performance, reliability, responsiveness, and uptime in production.
• Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, product managers, physicians, and healthcare teams to turn requirements into technical solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 4+ years of backend development experience using Python, Golang, or similar languages.
• Experience building and maintaining multimodal data pipelines involving speech, vision, and text with Ray or Apache Airflow.
• Experience with distributed computing using Spark, Hadoop, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with relational databases, RESTful APIs, gRPC, GraphQL, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, Terraform, deployment, and build systems.
• Experience with AI/ML or LLMs, sensitive or regulated data, real-time audio, and data science.
