Principal Software Engineer - Mobile Platform

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for a hybrid mobile platform spanning React Native, iOS and Android.
• Define which capabilities should be shared or remain native, and establish how the layers work together.
• Turn the architecture into production code with strong performance, reliability and observability foundations.
• Launch a React Native product surface in production and provide stable platform primitives for product teams.
• Lead Staff and Senior engineers through a large-scale mobile architecture migration.
• Drive adoption across major product teams and influence mobile architecture across 800+ frontend engineers.

Requirements

• Principal-level experience setting technical direction across multiple engineering teams.
• Experience building or significantly evolving a production-scale cross-platform mobile architecture.
• Experience migrating a mature, live mobile product to a new architecture.
• Deep fundamentals across iOS and Android, including native boundaries and shared-code runtimes.
• Strong knowledge of mobile performance, reliability, crash monitoring and optimisation at scale.
• Hands-on ability with platform architecture, shared libraries, abstractions, infrastructure and system-level trade-offs.

Nice to have

• Deep production experience with React Native and React internals.
• Rust or C/C++ experience for portable mobile libraries.
• Open-source contributions to React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, Expo or related ecosystems.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD, release trains and over-the-air updates at scale.
• Experience using AI tooling in engineering work.
