Staff Software Engineer (Physical AI)

Location: London, England. Access to export-controlled information requires U.S. person status, eligibility for access without authorization, or eligibility and reasonable likelihood of obtaining U.S. export authorization.

Salary: £116,000–£155,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits based on eligibility.

What you will do

• Drive the transition from monolithic systems to distributed architecture and make the platform ready for agentic AI applications and MCP server integrations.
• Design and implement distributed compute services, workflow orchestration, and critical platform components in Python.
• Own CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment strategy, observability, monitoring, alerting, incident response, and performance scaling.
• Make technical and architectural decisions across the software lifecycle while balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform goals.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, establish engineering practices, and guide technical decisions across multiple teams.
• Partner with product and business stakeholders and participate in interviewing and onboarding engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including staff-level experience.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture and large-scale distributed backend systems.
• Expert-level Python development experience in production at scale, with strong API and service interface design skills.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, SRE, observability, incident response, and production reliability.
• Strong Kubernetes experience with production workloads and hands-on workflow orchestration experience using Temporal, Airflow, Kubeflow, or similar tools.
• AWS expertise is required; experience with Azure, GCP, data processing frameworks, authentication and authorization, and secure-by-default development is valuable.
