Senior Data Engineer

Location: Berlin, Germany; 80% office presence and 20% mobile working

What you will do

• Own data products end-to-end, from building pipelines to incident response and reliability improvements.
• Build, test, and maintain data transforms and services using a Python-first, cloud-native stack with parts in Go.
• Implement data-quality checks, lineage, and freshness to support reliable data consumption.
• Design schemas and data models that handle late and messy data and reflect business requirements.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, software engineers, and product managers on data contracts and interfaces.
• Mentor junior and mid-level data engineers and reduce operational toil through pipeline optimization.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience delivering and operating data products or backend systems end-to-end in a cloud environment.
• Strong Python skills and the ability to write clean, tested, and maintainable code; willingness to pick up Go or other tools.
• Deep knowledge of data modeling, schema evolution, incremental and idempotent processing, and late or dirty data handling.
• Experience applying data-quality checks, lineage, and freshness practices to real data products.
• Strong judgment on technical trade-offs, effective communication with non-engineers, and an ownership mindset.
• Experience mentoring data engineers at different seniority levels; a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is valued.
