TL;DR
Sr. Staff Platform/Data Reliability Engineer, Databricks (Databricks): Building a reliable, secure, scalable, and operationally mature Databricks platform for regulated enterprise workloads with an accent on observability, CI/CD, compute policies, and production reliability. Focus on designing deployment standards, enforcing data access controls, improving platform health and cost efficiency, and enabling secure operations across commercial and government-hosted environments.

What you will do
- Own operational excellence for the Databricks platform, including monitoring, alerting, observability, incident response support, and production runbooks.
- Define CI/CD, deployment automation, version control, and environment-promotion standards for Databricks assets.
- Design compute policies, workload isolation, service-principal usage, environment separation, and reliable production-execution patterns.
- Create reusable onboarding and operational templates covering logging, job tagging, metadata capture, and support handoffs.
- Partner with data engineering and cloud infrastructure teams to improve ingestion reliability, security, recoverability, cost efficiency, and compliance.
- Track platform health metrics, document operating standards, and mentor engineers developing platform responsibilities.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in data platform engineering, platform operations, site reliability engineering, or modern cloud data infrastructure.
- Production experience with Databricks or a closely related cloud data platform.
- Experience with CI/CD, environment promotion, version control, and deployment automation for data platforms and pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of observability, monitoring, alerting, incident management, and reliability engineering.
- Experience with compute policy design, workload isolation, service principals, and secure production execution.
- Ability to operate in regulated or security-sensitive environments with strict access-control, auditability, and operational requirements.
Nice to have
- Databricks certification or expertise with Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Workflows, and Databricks Asset Bundles.
- Experience with infrastructure as code and enterprise platform automation.
- Experience supporting commercial and government or otherwise segregated environments.
- Background in defense, aerospace, federal, or another regulated industry.
