Data Software Engineer (Earth Observation)

Location: Can be based in any location; hybrid role with locations in Harwell, UK; Athens, Greece; Barcelona, Spain; Porto, Portugal; Tenerife, Spain; and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Candidates must have the legal right to work in their chosen location.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain ingestion and processing pipelines for satellite and Earth Observation data.
• Design scalable, reliable systems for payload data processing, validation, and quality control.
• Translate scientific and analytical code into efficient, production-ready implementations.
• Define and enforce data, metadata, and quality standards across datasets.
• Integrate new data processing techniques and data types into existing workflows.
• Improve data architecture, scalability, performance, monitoring, and reliability.

Requirements

• Strong Python skills for building data processing pipelines.
• Experience working in Linux environments and with data ingestion, transformation, and processing pipelines.
• Ability to design and manage data structures, formats, and metadata standards.
• Experience with REST APIs, databases, and PostgreSQL.
• Understanding of data-driven and event-driven architectures, containerized environments, and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of satellite imagery, Earth Observation processing concepts, and geospatial tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS.
