Lead EIC Engineer (Direct Air Capture)

Location: Opfikon, Zurich, Switzerland; hybrid setup with onsite work required at least three days per week. The role includes travel up to 60%, including extended site presence in Alberta, Canada. Up to four weeks of remote work annually is available within any EU country.

What you will do

• Define and maintain the technical direction for the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls department.
• Develop EIC specifications, design philosophies, and bases of design for global project execution.
• Review and approve contractor submissions covering power distribution, control system architecture, and instrumentation.
• Lead initiatives to improve EIC system reliability and performance, troubleshoot issues, and evaluate smart instrumentation, advanced control systems, and energy-efficiency solutions.
• Coordinate EIC interfaces with process, mechanical, and project management teams while managing design, cost, schedule, safety, and operability risks.
• Lead and coach junior team members and incorporate cold-weather constructability, freeze protection, winterization, heat tracing, and commissioning constraints into plant design.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• At least 10 years of experience in process plants as an Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation Engineer, preferably in cold-weather climates.
• Experience leading teams and completing at least one full-cycle project from FEED and detailed design through construction, commissioning, and start-up.
• Expertise in low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, industrial instrumentation, and control systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including collaboration with vendors and diverse stakeholders.
• Fluent English and readiness to travel up to 60% are required.

Nice to have

• Experience in mining, water treatment, oil and gas, or a comparable process industry.
• Experience with cold-weather or remote and seasonally constrained project execution.
