Researcher, System Self-Improvement (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or New York, with 3+ days per week in-office from Tuesday through Thursday

Base salary: $150,000–$250,000 per year, depending on experience, location, and level, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design architectures that continuously evaluate and improve their own performance.
• Build feedback-driven systems that detect weaknesses, generate corrective hypotheses, and implement improvements through reflection, retraining, or workflow adaptation.
• Study self-models, reflective reasoning, reward modeling, and self-evaluation techniques for autonomous system evolution.
• Develop intelligent systems using models, including compound AI systems, agentic collaboration, ensembling, ReAct, and graph-of-thoughts approaches.
• Build prototypes and run experiments to demonstrate effectiveness on real-world enterprise problems.
• Translate research results into reliable AI systems for mission-critical workflows.

Requirements

• Experience building or studying feedback-driven systems such as evaluators, retrievers, iterative refinement loops, or performance dashboards.
• Strong programming and data analysis skills sufficient to prototype ideas and conduct experiments.
• Research track record demonstrated through publications or other substantial research work.
• Experience building systems with models rather than focusing only on training or fine-tuning models.
• Practical daily use of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Cursor, or Perplexity.
• Ability to work in the San Francisco or New York office at least three days per week.
