TL;DR
DSP Researcher (Fiber-Optic Sensing): Researching and developing distributed fiber-optic acoustic sensing technologies through signal processing, system modeling, simulations, and experimental validation with an accent on coherent optical sensing and full-pipeline system expertise. Focus on designing DSP algorithms, analyzing noisy field data, building real-time processing pipelines, and validating sensing capabilities through laboratory experiments.

What you will do

  • Conduct experimental and theoretical R&D for distributed fiber-optic acoustic sensing systems.
  • Develop, implement, and validate DSP algorithms for coherent optical sensing.
  • Model the full sensing pipeline, including optical signal generation and propagation, coherent detection, signal acquisition, DSP, and data analysis.
  • Design and run laboratory experiments to validate concepts and improve system performance.
  • Develop simulations, models, and analysis tools in Python and/or C++ for experiments, field-data analysis, and system evaluation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams to integrate new sensing capabilities and communicate complex technical concepts.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of DSP methods, system-level modeling, and experimental or field-data validation.
  • Relevant experience in electro-optics, fiber sensing, optical communications, RF DSP, radar/sonar, ultrasound imaging, or a related domain.
  • Experience with filtering, spectral analysis, FFT-based processing, estimation, detection, or time-series analysis.
  • Experience processing large-scale or streaming signal data and developing real-time or near-real-time DSP pipelines.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar, with analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.

Nice to have

  • Experience applying AI/ML to signal-processing problems or using AI-assisted tools for DSP research.
  • Hands-on experience with optical measurement techniques and optical/electro-optical systems.
  • Experience with electro-optical noise analysis, including phase noise, detector noise, amplifier noise, and SNR.
  • Experience with GPU acceleration, CUDA, or parallel computing.
