Senior Backend Engineer (Go)

Location: Remote from Germany, with offices in Aachen and Munich; remote work for up to 70 days per year from anywhere within the EU and selected countries outside the EU.

What you will do

• Own backend features end-to-end, from requirements analysis and implementation through testing, observability, production release, and iteration.
• Design pragmatic solutions for ambiguous technical problems and drive them through to production.
• Investigate complex distributed-system issues, lead incident response, and turn post-mortems into reliability improvements.
• Improve system stability, performance, and scalability as the connected fleet and system complexity grow.
• Maintain API specifications, component documentation, design documents, and RFCs.
• Shape cross-team architectural decisions and mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design discussions.

Requirements

• Deep backend engineering experience building, scaling, and operating reliable production systems.
• Experience with Go and its ecosystem, including production services.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized services in production.
• Experience with data infrastructure, including Redis/Valkey and ClickHouse or similar technologies.
• Experience with incident response and post-mortems, with a focus on improving system reliability.
• Strong autonomy, ownership, systems thinking, technical judgment, and API design and documentation skills.

Nice to have

• Mentorship experience through code reviews, design guidance, pairing, and constructive feedback.
• Experience with energy management systems or platform/infrastructure engineering for engineering teams.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Protobuf, or gRPC-gateway.
