Detections Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Rosslyn, Virginia, or remote within the United States; work from hirify.global headquarters 2–3 days per week for the hybrid arrangement, with occasional travel of less than 15%.

Base salary: $170,000–$200,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and build proof-of-concept detection capabilities for cybersecurity threats, preventative maintenance issues, and telemetry anomalies.
• Partner with Data Scientists to operationalize statistical insights and with Product Engineers to transition validated algorithms into the core platform.
• Analyze large repositories of serial bus data to distinguish benign traffic, hardware or software failures, and malicious cyber activity.
• Interpret specifications and interface control documents to develop protocol parser logic and research novel OT failure modes.
• Collaborate with QA and Test Engineers on testbeds, simulation frameworks, and validation suites for detection modules.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or an equivalent field.
• Proficiency in Python and/or Rust, or C/C++ with willingness to learn Rust.
• Experience with Git, GitHub Actions, Docker, and the Linux command-line interface.
• Knowledge of data analysis, basic machine learning, operating systems, and cybersecurity anomaly detection.
• Strong collaboration, technical documentation, and workflow-writing skills.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with time-series or network traffic data.
• Knowledge of serial and embedded protocols such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, CAN, and Ethernet/IP.
• Background in embedded systems, protocol reverse engineering, or predictive maintenance.
