Electronics Engineer (IoT Hardware)

Location: On-site in Auckland, New Zealand; travel to China and Thailand is required, typically quarterly depending on seniority.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and test reliable electronics for animal wearables and supporting infrastructure.
• Own the end-to-end electronic design process, including component selection, simulation, schematics, PCB layout, prototyping, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and testing.
• Work on ultra-low-power design, RF optimisation, antenna tuning, solar conversion, battery systems, audio, and high-voltage pulse circuits.
• Improve hardware reliability and performance while reducing cost and supporting ambitious production targets.
• Collaborate with firmware, systems, mechanical, production, and farm teams.
• Develop validation plans, design for manufacturing, testing, and EMC, and investigate manufacturing and field returns.

Requirements

• Degree or relevant qualification in Electronics Engineering.
• At least 5 years of professional experience designing reliable electronics and delivering products into high-volume mass production.
• Experience with MCUs, SoCs, IMUs, GPS, WiFi, LoRa, I2C, SPI, op-amps, ADCs/DACs, SMPS, LDOs, and mixed-signal analogue/digital design.
• Experience with ultra-low-power IoT electronics, including solar and high-voltage power generation, insulation, DC-DC conversion, and power optimisation.
• Proficiency with SPICE simulation and electronics test equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analysers, signal generators, LCR meters, current clamps, and high-voltage meters.
• Must be based in Auckland; strong organisation, communication, and self-direction are required.

Nice to have

• Experience mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, or owning a subsystem end to end.
• Previous startup or scale-up experience.
