Credit Strategy Director, Home Improvement

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid work model with in-office attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; remote placement is not considered. Local hours (PT) required, with flexibility across time zones when necessary. Relocation is offered based on actual job level, and travel to hirify.global offices or other locations may be required.

Salary: Target base salary range of $175,000–$205,000 annually, plus potential long-term awards and annual bonus.

What you will do

• Own credit risk management and pricing strategy for the unsecured Home Improvement point-of-sale lending segment.
• Develop credit policies, underwriting criteria, exposure limits, segmentation, pricing models, vintage loss forecasts, and valuations.
• Lead predictive models, grading systems, experimentation, and AI-driven analysis to optimize credit performance and workflows responsibly.
• Partner with Product, Business, Engineering, Data Science, and other cross-functional teams on operating plans, strategic plans, innovation, and new product development.
• Implement strategy changes with rigorous testing, preventive and detective controls, documented policies, and standard operating procedures aligned with bank and regulatory standards.
• Build monitoring and early-warning systems, deliver credit risk reporting for Credit Committee, Board, and regulators, and coach junior team members.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in financial services, credit risk management, pricing, portfolio analytics, or lending strategy, plus a bachelor's degree or higher or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Deep expertise in unsecured lending, preferably point-of-sale lending or credit cards, with a strong understanding of commercial value drivers.
• Proven experience in credit policy development, underwriting strategy, pricing optimization, risk segmentation, loss forecasting, and portfolio analytics.
• Ability to translate credit and pricing strategy into business requirements, testing plans, controls, and production implementation.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Tableau, with strong familiarity with advanced analytics and credit or machine learning models for consumer credit products.
• Understanding of how AI and machine learning models interact with credit risk decisions, including limitations and regulatory implications, and when models should inform rather than drive decisions.
• Commitment to responsible AI use in high-stakes work, including data integrity, model limitations, compliance, and building new workflows.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for translating complex credit and analytical topics to varied stakeholders.
• Detail orientation, sound judgment, strategic thinking, and consistent focus on measurable business results.

• Advanced degree in Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience mentoring or developing analytical talent in a credit or risk function.
