Art Director (Magazine and Digital Design)

What you will do

• Create magazine layouts and digital design content while maintaining Visit California’s visual standards.
• Conceptualize visual components for stories, develop pitches, and plan photography and illustration.
• Develop photo orders, oversee photoshoots, and build the client’s photo library and digital asset management system.
• Research and source scenic and service images for print and digital projects.
• Identify and hire freelance illustrators, stylists, and photographers while managing schedules, licensing, releases, and budgets.
• Track production schedules, support process development, and prepare files for pre-press and press production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
• At least 5 years of media design experience.
• Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Woodwing content management systems, AirTable, Slack, and Google Docs.
• Strong typography, layout design, visual problem-solving, and photo planning skills.
• Ability to communicate with photographers, stylists, editors, art directors, and photo teams.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, multitasking, and deadline-management skills.
