Risk Team Director - Real Estate

Location: New York City, New York; compensation details apply to candidates based in the United States.

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 OTE per year, plus variable compensation where applicable, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead complex real estate insurance placements, including layered and shared property towers, catastrophe-exposed portfolios, alternative risk financing structures, wrap-ups, and lender or joint-venture compliance.
• Design risk management programs across property, general liability, umbrella and excess, builders risk, environmental, workers compensation, auto, cyber, D&O, crime, and EPLI.
• Advise on coverage issues, loss analysis, benchmarking, claims trends, valuations, COPE data, catastrophe modeling, and contractual risk transfer.
• Engage CFOs, general counsels, asset managers, principals, carriers, and internal Risk Advisors on high-stakes coverage strategy and negotiations.
• Build technical playbooks, standards, review processes, tools, and training for scalable real estate risk advisory.
• Mentor Risk Advisors and eventually hire and lead a dedicated Real Estate Risk team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in commercial insurance or risk management, with deep specialization in real estate.
• Experience personally owning complex real estate placements and serving as a senior technical resource.
• Deep knowledge of property, general liability, umbrella and excess, builders risk, environmental, workers compensation, auto, and specialty insurance lines.
• Experience structuring programs for owners, operators, REITs, syndicators, developers, property managers, or institutional real estate investors.
• Working knowledge of lease and loan insurance requirements, waivers of subrogation, additional insured compliance, and contractual risk transfer.
• Ability to communicate complex risk concepts clearly to executive-level clients and work across asset classes, geographies, and capital structures.

Nice to have

• Prior people management experience.
• CPCU, ARM, CIC, CRM, or CRIS designation.
