Staff Software Engineer (FinTech)

Location: Milan, Italy; hybrid with three days per week in-office (Tuesday, Thursday, and one additional day of choice)

Salary: €64,000–€88,000 gross per annum

What you will do

• Define the long-term technical vision and strategy for a product domain.
• Architect and build scalable, high-quality backend subsystems for financial products.
• Design and maintain high-throughput microservices serving millions of users with high availability.
• Lead cross-product initiatives and drive technical alignment across multiple groups.
• Represent the technical vision, evaluate emerging FinTech technologies, and provide technical leadership.
• Develop technical talent and promote continuous engineering improvement.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in backend software engineering.
• Deep professional experience with Java and complex microservices architecture.
• Experience building and maintaining high-throughput, highly available systems.
• Strong understanding of cloud platforms; AWS experience is advantageous.
• Ability to communicate clearly, build cross-organizational relationships, and drive technical alignment.
• Fluent English and an interest in FinTech or startup environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS services including EC2, ECS, S3, Lambda, Kinesis, and ElasticSearch.
• Experience generating intellectual property and contributing to technical thought leadership.
