Senior Backend Software Engineer - Consumer Growth (Fintech)

Location: Milan, Italy; hybrid work with three days per week in-office (Tuesday, Thursday, and one additional day), with the option to request extra remote time.

Salary: €51,000–€66,500 gross per annum.

What you will do

• Design, implement, operate, and ship services powering payment flows, identity verification, loyalty, and consumer engagement features.
• Own the full service lifecycle, including API design, data modelling, production rollouts, and on-call operations.
• Lead technical analysis and design discussions for projects spanning multiple teams, producing clear and reviewable documentation.
• Improve engineering quality through testing strategies, progressive rollouts, technical-debt reduction, and maintainable service design.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on cross-service dependencies, event-driven patterns, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in backend software engineering.
• Deep experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and management of external dependencies such as banking protocols.
• Experience working in cloud environments and high-paced, mission-critical contexts; AWS experience is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with or strong interest in GenAI-driven backend features, LLMs, LangGraph, or Amazon Bedrock.
• Fluent English is required. Strong cross-team communication and technical leadership skills are expected.
