TL;DR
Mission Integration Engineer (Aerospace): Integrating spacecraft and payloads across environmental testing, launch vehicle integration, mission operations, and customer programs with an accent on orbital mechanics, system-level analysis, and technical liaison work. Focus on developing mission budgets and documentation, assessing CLA, thermal, EMC, and reliability risks, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams through launch and on-orbit operations.

Location: Los Angeles, with in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office. U.S. Person status is required to access export-controlled data.

Estimated base salary: $120,000–$150,000 per year, plus equity. The range excludes additional benefits.

What you will do

  • Plan and execute spacecraft integration and testing, including payload integration, environmental testing, and launch vehicle integration.
  • Perform mission analysis covering orbital mechanics, trajectory planning, deployment strategies, and mission-specific power, mass, data, and pointing budgets.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between customers, internal engineering teams, mission operations, and external partners.
  • Analyze coupled loads, thermal, electromagnetic compatibility, system reliability, and failure mode risks.
  • Develop system specifications, interface control documents, integration procedures, design descriptions, and verification and validation materials.
  • Support proposals, feasibility studies, cost estimates, design reviews, launch-site activities, and spacecraft operations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Person status required for access to export-controlled data.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with complex hardware systems, spacecraft, or technical capture management.
  • Strong understanding of space systems, launch vehicle mechanics, orbital dynamics, and mission operations.
  • Experience with satellite manufacturing or related aerospace, defense, or high-tech industries, preferably including CubeSat, small satellite, rideshare, launch vehicle, or payload integration.
  • Proficiency with mission analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, STK, FreeFlyer, or GMAT, plus advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience working with prime contractors or government entities.
  • Familiarity with flight software, embedded systems, and CCSDS, S-band, or X-band communications protocols.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing timelines in a fast-paced environment.
